Even the best auto manufacturer is sometimes subject to a car recall. And we know that hearing there’s been a recall for your beloved new BMW vehicle can be scary. But recalls aren’t always as bad as they seem, and we’re here to help!

Today we’re going to talk about what car recalls mean, and what to do if you hear about one for your vehicle.

What do Vehicle Recalls Mean?

So what exactly does it mean if you hear that your BMW model has a recall?

• A recall can be initiated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or by the vehicle manufacturer themselves.
• A recall usually means that someone has identified that a model or piece of equipment poses a safety risk.
  • Safety risks can range from slow-loading backup cameras to more serious issues like ignition or tire problems.
• Once a recall has been issues, the manufacturer is responsible for fixing it.

What to Do about a BMW Recall

If you do hear about a BMW recall, there are some easy steps you can take:

1. Read the recall notice. This will explain in detail what the safety issue is, what risks are associated, and warning signs (if any) about the problem.
2. If instructed, call our El Cajon BMW service center to schedule a repair or parts replacement.
3. Check the recall notice to see if your vehicle is too dangerous to drive until it can be repaired – more often than not you can continue driving until you get your repairs or replacements.
4. In rare cases, you might be instructed to contact an authorized dealership like ours to arrange a replacement.
