Automotive enthusiasts appreciate the BMW brand for its lineup of impressive, luxurious, and capable new 2017 BMW vehicles. Due to its storied history, the BMW name has become synonymous with the idea of what a luxury vehicle should be. The BMW brand has long been a name in the automotive industry for going on a hundred years and over the past century, it has become a highly-respected name within the industry. Here at our BMW dealers near San Diego, we're proud to be associated with such a prestigious and sophisticated brand, and we can't wait to show local drivers everything that the BMW name offers!

The BMW brand initially originated with three other manufacturing companies: Rapp Motorenwerke, Bayerische Flugzeugwerke, and Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach, which were initially in the aircraft engine manufacturing business before focusing on first motorcycle engines and then automobile engines after World War I. After years of producing and manufacturing engines, it designed its first car in the BMW Dixi 3/15. In 1933, the BMW 303 was introduced. It was larger and more conventional than previous models and used the brand's new M78 engine, which was the first BMW engine that used the straight-six engine and kidney grille that would become characteristic of later BMW models and style. The BMW 303 was later supplanted by the 326, which was a larger car that offered a more rigid frame and was the BMW brand's first four-door sedan.

While the BMW brand suffered financially in the years immediately following World War II, it found its footing again in the 1960s. In the 1960s, the BMW brand's style evolved and cemented the BMW brand's reputation for offering sporty and sophisticated luxury vehicles for drivers. It was around this time that the BMW “New Class” was introduced in the form of the 1500, 1600, and 1800 models, which consisted of sedans, coupes, and convertibles. These models were powered by the celebrated BMW four-cylinder M10 engine and offered fully independent suspensions, MacPherson struts in front, and front disc brakes. These models were precursors to the famed BMW 3 Series, which is still popular today. The BMW 3 Series is a compact luxury sedan that has been in production since 1975 and has long been popular around the world. The current 2017 BMW 3 Series is a four-door sedan that is offered in several trim levels. The BMW brand now offers a full lineup of coupes, convertibles, sedans, and award-winning crossover SUVs such as the 2017 BMW X1.
